Poland stands firm on Russia and urges Europe not to restore gas supplies
Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that Europe should never resume gas imports from Russia, even if a peace agreement is reached between Ukraine and Russia.
Speaking to the BBC, the Polish leader emphasized that the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines should be "dismantled," as both infrastructures have been abandoned since 2022.
"I can only hope that European leaders will learn lessons from Russia's aggression against Ukraine and that they will push through a decision to never restore the pumping of gas through this pipeline," he said.
During an appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Andrzej Duda also urged European nations to avoid re-establishing commercial ties with Russia.
The closure of the two pipelines has driven gas prices higher across Europe, but he remains firm in his stance.
"I believe the Nord Stream pipelines should be dismantled. It is a threat from the point of view of energy, from the point of view of the military, but also it is a huge economic threat because it means a domination of Russia over Europe in the economic sense," he added.
