Are economic sanctions against Moscow effective?
Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has issued a decree cancelling the requirement for Russian gas importers to pay exclusively through Gazprombank, an entity sanctioned by the US government.
From now on, foreign importers will be able to make payments through other banks, according to the decree published by the Russian state legal information portal.
On November 21, the US government imposed sanctions on Gazprombank and some fifty other Russian banks, one of the factors behind the devaluation of the ruble in recent weeks.
