'EU should send troops to Greenland' (Robert Brieger)
The head of the EU Military Committee (EUMC) argues in an interview in the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that European soldiers should be stationed in Greenland.
“That would send a strong signal and possibly contribute to stability in the region,” Austrian General Robert Brieger argues.
“There are large resources there and important trade routes,” Brieger continued. “With increasing melting due to climate change, that also potentially creates tension with Russia and possibly China.”
Therefore, he said, it would “make sense” to not only station US military personnel in Greenland but also “consider placing EU soldiers there.”
