‘Mistake to think that Russia has no red lines’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's hyped interview with US ex-Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson has nevertheless yielded some remarkable statements.
For instance, Lavrov stressed that the West should abandon the idea that Russia has no red lines. ‘If one follows the logic of some Westerners, namely that Russia would not have red lines or that those red lines would keep moving, that is a very serious mistake.’
Lavrov said the use of the hypersonic missile Oreshnik in the war in Ukraine was intended to make it clear to the West that Moscow is prepared to use all means to ensure that Moscow is not dealt a ‘strategic defeat’. ‘The message is that you, the US and its allies, who also supply long-range weapons to the regime in Kiev, must understand that we are ready to use all means to make sure they do not inflict what they call a strategic defeat on Russia,’ Lavrov told Carlson. ‘They are fighting to maintain their hegemony over the world, over every country, every region, every continent. We are fighting for our legitimate security interests.’
