Trump wants to end the war by Easter
US President-elect Donald Trump is gradually backtracking on his claims that he could end Russia's war with Ukraine in 24 hours.
The Guardian reports, quoting British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, that Mr. Trump's expectations have shifted toward Easter.
Mr. Lammy sees positive signs that Mr. Trump is distancing himself from his radical assertions about reaching a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia in a day. This type of rhetoric was customary for the Republican during his election campaign, but the situation has changed since then.
“Donald Trump isn't yet in power. From what I've seen over the last few days, I think there's a slight retreat from the idea that a deal will be reached on January 21, which is now unlikely. And we're hearing that the timetable has been pushed back somewhat ... towards Easter,” said the Foreign Minister.
On January 8, Mr. Trump's future special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said he wanted to find a solution to end Russia's war against Ukraine within 100 days.
He suggested that Mr. Trump, Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Putin would reach an acceptable resolution “in the short term”.
