Ukraine on the verge of blackout

Ukraine has called an extraordinary meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors for December 12 due to Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.

“Russian attacks on substations, which the IAEA has identified as important for nuclear safety, represent a global threat,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andri Sibiga said in a message posted on social media network X.

In late November, Russia attacked Ukraine's power system with missiles allegedly loaded with cluster munitions, an action claimed by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, as a response to US-led Ukrainian long-range missile attacks on Russian territory.

The new Russian bombardment - the eleventh massive attack on the Ukrainian power grid since March - hit 117 targets. Many of the missiles were aimed at western Ukraine. In the regions of Lviv, Volynia and Rivne, more than a million customers were temporarily without electricity due to damage caused by Russian missiles.
