Vladimir Putin demands Ukraine never join NATO
Russia plans to insist that Ukraine never join NATO and that the country adopt a "neutral stance with a limited army" in potential discussions with the United States, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
President-elect Donald Trump, set to return to the White House on January 20, has expressed his desire to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible. Donald Trump, who has repeatedly emphasized the need for a swift resolution to the conflict, is expected to prioritize this meeting.
According to sources cited by the outlet, the Kremlin would agree to NATO member countries continuing to supply weapons to Ukraine under bilateral security agreements. However, these weapons "should not be used against Russia or to recapture territory," one source said.
Moscow would retain the territory it has gained over two years of war—approximately 20% of Ukraine’s land—but the Kremlin is reportedly open to negotiating territory exchanges.
Currently, Kyiv and Moscow are only engaging in talks about prisoner exchanges and the return of deported children, Ukrainian officials told the media anonymously.
