Puerto Rico asks Donald Trump for help after Venezuela threatens invasion
The governor of Puerto Rico has called on President-elect Donald Trump to respond after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro threatened to invade the U.S. territory.
According to Jenniffer González-Colón, the remarks by the South American leader represent "an open threat to the United States and our national security."
"I sent a letter to President @realDonaldTrump, trusting his administration will swiftly respond and make clear to the Maduro narc*-regime that the U.S. will protect American lives and sovereignty and won't bow down to petty, murderous thugs," she wrote on X.
Last week, Washington announced a 25 million dollars reward for information leading to the capture of the Venezuelan head of state.
In response, Nicolás Maduro called for Puerto Rico’s liberation during an event held in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
"The freedom of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it with Brazilian troops," he said.
