Trump doesn't rule out military pressure to seize Greenland

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reminded US President-elect Donald Trump that the inviolability of borders and international law applies to everyone, including Washington.

Indeed, Trump hasn't ruled out the use of military pressure to seize the Danish territory of Greenland. “The principle of the inviolability of borders applies to all countries, whether they're to the east or to the west. Everyone has to respect it, whether it's a small country or a great power,” said Scholz in explicit terms at an extraordinary meeting with the media in Berlin, after speaking with other European leaders about Trump's latest words, which also include regaining control of the Panama Canal and attaching Canada to the United States.

The German Chancellor, surrounded by the flags of the European Union and Germany at the Chancellery, recalled that at the height of the Cold War in the 1970s, Western states and the Soviet bloc had agreed that borders couldn't be moved by violence.

For his part, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Denmark's Minister of Foreign Affairs, asserted that “Denmark is open to a dialogue with the Americans on how we can cooperate”.
