After Ukraine uses US missiles, the Kremlin retaliates
On Wednesday, Ukraine attacked a Russian military airfield using American ATACMS missiles.
The day after the attack, the Kremlin gave assurances that the Russian armed forces would respond to the attack. “A response will follow: it will come at the time and in the way that will be considered appropriate. It will necessarily follow,” asserted Dmitri Peskov, spokesman for the Russian presidency.
The response came on Thursday night. The Ukrainian authorities announced a “massive” attack by Russian missiles, Kinjal hypersonic missiles, explosive drones and cruise missile groups on energy infrastructure. According to media reports, the strike resulted in several explosions in western, southern and central Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry said: “In response to the use of US long-range weapons, the Russian armed forces carried out a massive attack on critical energy infrastructure facilities”.
