Donald Trump calls for ceasefire in Ukraine
Donald Trump has called for a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict after meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris over the weekend.
The current Ukrainian leader and the winner of the U.S. presidential election were invited to the French capital last weekend for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, where they had the opportunity to discuss the ongoing conflict.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, the incoming occupant of the White House expressed sorrow over the immense loss of life on both sides and urged the two nations to agree on a ceasefire.
"There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed," he wrote.
In his message, Donald Trump referenced the loss of 400,000 soldiers in the conflict but did not clarify whether this figure included the wounded.
"Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness," he added.
According to Axios, it was Emmanuel Macron who convinced Donald Trump to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy even though he was reluctant in the first place.
