French among the rebels who brought down the Assad regime
The Islamist group HTS, or Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, is behind the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Several French nationals are among its ranks.
Among the rebels who brought down the Assad regime are fighters of French origin. They follow the instructions of Omar Omsen, a jihadist from Nice. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office confirmed the information.
A journalist from France 24, Wassim Nasr, collected several videos from the day of the offensive in Syria in which French nationals belonging to a brigade affiliated with HTS appear. The brigade, according to the journalist, was founded by Omar Omsen, a former robber from Nice who turned to recruiting jihadists.
About a hundred of these recruits lived in Idlib, a stronghold of the HTS group, "not impervious to terrorist ideas", specifies France info.
Note that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is cited in the case of Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher who was stabbed to death and decapitated.
