“Events in Syria demonstrate Putin's regime' s weakness"

Ukraine welcomes the fall of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

After the flight of the deposed Syrian leader, Kiev claimed that the unprecedented offensive by Islamist rebels demonstrated the “weakness of Putin's regime”, Syria's ally, stressing that “dictatorships that bet on the Russian president were doomed to the same end”.

Andriï Sybiga, head of Ukrainian diplomacy, declared on X (formerly Twitter): “Assad has fallen. It has always been this way, and it will always be this way for dictators who bet on Putin. He always betrays those who count on him”.

For its part, the Ukrainian ministry added that “events in Syria demonstrate the weakness of Putin's regime, which is incapable of fighting on two fronts and is abandoning its closest allies in favor of its aggression against Ukraine”.

According to Kiev, the fall of the Assad regime “will significantly weaken Russia's expansionism” in the Middle East. Moscow has two military bases in Syria.
