“Putin knows how to trick” Germany, says Boris Pistorius
This Sunday, December 22, the German Defense Minister declared that his country was particularly targeted by Vladimir Putin's hybrid attacks. According to him, Germany must not ignore this threat.
Speaking to the newspapers of German group Funke Mediengruppe, Boris Pistorius affirmed that the Russian president knew Germany well and that he knew "how to trap us". "Putin is carrying out hybrid attacks, and Germany is particularly targeted." The Social Democrat added that "ignoring this threat because it makes us uncomfortable will not reduce it, but on the contrary will amplify it".
Campaigns on social networks
According to the German minister, it's important infrastructures, activities in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea as well as energy supplies that could be targeted by the Russians.
This is to emphasize that "there are also campaigns conducted on social media networks, interference in electoral campaigns, and the financing of certain voices - such as those of the populist and far-right parties, AfD and BSW - assuring that it's not a question of our protection, but that we're heading towards a war with Russia".
"Dividing our society"
Pistorius also believes that the Russian strategy consists of "dividing our society". "We must do everything in our power to prevent Putin's strategy from succeeding".
