“Russia has won this war in Ukraine” (German far right)
In an interview with the daily Welt, Germany's far-right argued that Germany should reconsider its membership of NATO.
According to Tino Chrupalla, co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, the US-led Alliance must take into account the interests of all European countries, “including the interests of Russia”. He added: “Europe has been forced to implement US interests. We reject this."
“NATO isn't currently a defense alliance. A defense community must accept and respect the interests of all European countries, including the interests of Russia,” said the AfD co-leader. “If NATO is unable to do this, Germany must ask itself how useful this alliance still is for us,” added Tino Chrupalla.
According to the far-right politician, “the German government must finally get to the point of wanting to end the war”. Tino Chrupalla added that “Russia has won this war. Reality has caught up with those who claim to want to make Ukraine capable of winning the war”.
As Le Monde points out, the Alternative for Germany is credited with 18-19% of voting intentions in the polls ahead of the early general elections due to take place on February 23, following Monday's vote of confidence, which is expected to lead to the dissolution of the Bundestag.
