‘Solution to conflict must be just’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump in Paris. He stressed the need for a ‘just’ solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

In Kiev, concerns grew in recent weeks about how Trump, once installed in the White House, would handle the conflict. The Biden administration just announced another $ 1 billion military aid package for Ukraine, including advanced weapons and supplies.

It was the first face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Trump. The next US president previously expressed scepticism about US military aid to Ukraine, suggesting he could end the war quickly. In Ukraine, this raised fears that Trump might force Zelensky to make concessions to Russia. Zelensky stressed the need for a lasting peace with firm security guarantees for Ukraine.

Trump came to Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame, accompanied by key advisers and figures such as Elon Musk. Trump reiterated his intention to address global instability and praised his relationship with French President Macron despite past tensions.
