NATO considers deploying peacekeeping troops to Ukrainian front

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, on Wednesday called for “security guarantees” from European allies and a “united” position to strengthen Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president is calling for more air defenses and weapons in the face of a wave of Russian attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure.

He spoke ahead of a summit hosted by NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, that brings together the Ukrainian president and a group of European leaders from the alliance.

Zelensky said the meeting was a “good opportunity to talk about security guarantees for Ukraine for today and tomorrow”.

The Ukrainian leader called on Europe to take a “single and common” position to ensure Ukraine has the military equipment and anti-aircraft systems it needs to confront Russian attacks.

Donald Trump's arrival at the White House could precipitate a reduction in US aid and ceasefire negotiations, the meeting at Mr Rutte's residence is seen as a starting point for devising long-term plans to help Ukraine, including the idea of deploying European troops to secure a future ceasefire.
