North Korean troops yet to be deployed to battlefield due to lack of training, say Western officials
North Korean troops have not yet been sent to the front lines due to insufficient training, several Western officials have disclosed.
The 12,000-strong contingent dispatched by Kim Jong Un has been mostly stationed in Russia's Kursk region, which has remained partially under Ukrainian control since last summer.
While the North Korean soldiers are present to support Russian forces in their offensives, multiple Western sources report that the troops have not yet been deployed into active combat.
Western officials also believe it is unlikely that North Korean forces will be sent directly into Ukraine, expecting them to remain stationed within Russia instead.
"We say due to poor training and lack of logistical support as the primary reasons why DPRK haven’t started the fight yet," said one official.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to lose ground in the eastern regions of the country, partly due to a slowdown in Western military aid. However, the United States announced an additional 725 million dollars in assistance earlier this week.
