Vladimir Putin forces MI5 to shift focus and ressources to Russian threats
Vladimir Putin has compelled MI5 to prioritize Russia over counter-terrorism due to serious threats from Moscow.
Ken McCallum, the head of the British intelligence agency, acknowledged making "uncomfortable choices" regarding resource allocation to address a range of threats.
He argued that the most pressing dangers now stem from foreign states themselves, emphasizing the need for the agency to carefully balance its capabilities to respond effectively.
He said: "We'll be looking at how much of our finite capacity can we spend on state activity from Russia or Iran or China; how much do we have to spend on various forms of terrorism. You don't have enough capacity to pursue everything."
In October, McCallum had warned that Russia aims to create "disruption" on British soil, with Russian spies operating in increasingly "reckless" ways.
