Volodymyr Zelenskyy discloses real Ukraine casualties
For the first time since the nearly three-year-long conflict began, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed Ukraine’s military losses.
In a message posted on Telegram over the weekend, the Ukrainian president stated that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in combat, with another 370,000 wounded.
The announcement came shortly after Donald Trump claimed on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Ukraine had lost 400,000 troops on the battlefield.
Back in February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had reported that 31,000 soldiers had been killed, though he refrained from providing figures for the wounded, citing concerns about revealing information to Russia. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has not released any official numbers regarding its losses since the conflict began.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost 43,000 soldiers who died on the battlefield. And let’s not forget we managed to return 3,767 warriors from Russian captivity, he wrote.
The Ukrainian leader also noted that casualty figures reported in Russian media were exaggerated.
Last weekend, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump met on the sidelines of the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, following efforts by Emmanuel Macron to facilitate a discussion between the Ukrainian leader and the American president-elect.
