Volodymyr Zelenskyy won’t sacrifice youth by sending them to face Putin’s troops
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made it clear that he does not wish to sacrifice young people by sending them to the front lines to counter Vladimir Putin’s forces.
Amid a rising number of desertions in the Ukrainian army, the president emphasized the need to better equip existing troops rather than deploying more soldiers to the battlefield.
In a post shared on X, the Ukrainian leader rejected a U.S. suggestion to lower the conscription age from 25 to 18, maintaining the current minimum age.
He added: "The priority should be providing missiles and lowering Russia’s military potential, not Ukraine’s draft age. The goal should be to preserve as many lives as possible, not to preserve weapons in storage."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump following a productive discussion last weekend in Paris, held on the sidelines of the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral.
