Priests' chemsex party ends in tragedy
A 69-year-old British clergyman has died after a night of sex and drug use with a Belgian priest in Kalmthout, north of Antwerp, Belgium, Belgian authorities have said.
The 60-year-old Belgian priest was later arrested and is accused of drug trafficking resulting in death. According to the prosecutor's office, the incident occurred on Thursday night at a clerical residence, when the two men began to feel unwell after taking ecstasy and poppers.
Shortly after midnight, the Belgian priest called emergency services who, despite their efforts, were unable to resuscitate his British companion. Two ecstasy pills were found at the scene, confirming that both people had taken drugs before the tragic incident. Despite the autopsy, authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of death, leaving the investigation open in order to clarify all details of the case.
"It seems that the two men consumed ecstasy and pills, and that they had sexual intercourse. Two ecstasy pills were also found. Traces of narcotics were found on the victim's body," the prosecutor's office said.
The events took place while Pope Francis was visiting Belgium.
