Wild bear pounces on trainer and kills her

A professional animal trainer was taming wild animals on her property in the Russian village of Pargolovo, near St. Petersburg, when one of the bears attacked her.

The bear killed the woman, before being shot by one of the trainer's employees.

In Russia, bears are still used as attractions in circuses. This obviously involves a great deal of unnecessary danger and cruelty to the animals, and often leads to injury, accidents and death.

The bear is considered a symbol of the nation.

There are around 100,000 bears living in Russia.
