Fear sets in: "If Trump loses, we can expect the worst"
A Democratic lawmaker said he was extremely concerned about the violence and had hired a half-dozen state police officers to provide security for his election night party.
Security is tight around the country, with federal and local law enforcement already manning government buildings across Washington, D.C., ahead of the election.
The Capitol Police conducted a casualty evacuation drill that involved landing three helicopters outside the Capitol.
When speaking to Axios reporters, more than a dozen House Democrats expressed concern about the potential for post-election violence.
Democratic Representative Delia Ramirez said she fears violence regardless of the outcome of the presidential election:
"If Trump wins, he and his violent supporters will be emboldened. And if he loses, I fear they will be worse than they were four years ago."
While most members' fears focused on January 6, some also expressed concern about the days following November 5.
