Trump's revenge: "I'll fire him in 2 seconds"

Donald Trump, candidate in next week's US elections, has spoken out about special counsel, Jack Smith, who has filed two federal lawsuits against him.

It will last "two seconds", because it will be one of the first issues he addresses during his term.

His statement follows an interview with a conservative podcast in which he was asked whether he would consider pardoning himself and firing Jack Smith on his first day in the White House.

"It's very easy. I would fire him in two seconds," the Republican candidate was quick to point out.

Jack Smith filed two lawsuits against Mr Trump after leaving the White House.

In August 2023, Trump was charged with conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden. He was also charged in a Florida court with mishandling classified documents, but that case was dismissed by Trump-appointed US District Judge Aileen Cannon.

In any case, the US president doesn't have the power to dismiss a special counsel, but if re-elected, he could appoint a new attorney general who would have the power.
