A message for the dead? See you on the mountain of fear
Mount Osore, or Osore-zan, is located in the north of Japan's Tohoku region. It's one of the country's most sacred sites, animated by popular religious practices linked to Buddhism and Shintoism.
Osore-zan, which means “mountain of fear”, is home to the Bodai-ji temple, where visitors can consult spirit mediums called itako. The latter can invoke the souls of the dead, make contact with them and transmit their messages to the living, emphasizes Zeleb media.
According to Japanese legends, Mount Osore is one of the gateways to the underworld.
