Aggressive campaign against excessive tourism in Spain
Tired of tourism driving up rental prices, the inhabitants of Malaga in Spain have found a highly original way of expressing their anger.
Furious to find out that the house he had been renting for ten years was to become an apartment for tourists, Dani Romero began posting on social media networks.
It quickly turned into a movement, as Malaga residents began sticking stickers reading “A family used to live here” or “Go home” outside tourist rentals in the southern Spanish city.
“I had no intention of organizing a revolution,” said Mr. Romero. “I'm just looking for a house to live in.”
A Spanish radio station described the initiative as “the sticker rebellion”, “but there is no rejection of tourism”, said Mr. Romero.
