Boy (14) beaten to brain haemorrhage by other child (16)
A gruesome case of senseless violence reaches us from the East Flemish town of Zelzate (Belgium).
14-year-old Gert was beaten up at the bus stop by a group of youths led by a 16-year-old. He received blows and kicks and was even kicked on the head several times. Footage of the act shocked the internet. Bystanders captured the footage rather than intervene.
The boy barely managed to get on the bus to flee, but had to get off not much later as the pain was unbearable. The teenager was taken to hospital severely injured. There, a brain haemorrhage and multiple fractures were diagnosed, in addition to a severe concussion. Last weekend, he underwent surgery. The victim is still in intensive care, but is said to be making a full physical recovery. A whole recovery process also awaits him mentally given the brutal aggression he was the victim of.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old offender, who plays in the same football team as the victim, appeared before the juvenile court. In the near future, he will have to undergo rehabilitation in a closed juvenile institution, after which it will be decided what punishment he will receive.
