If the French capital were faced with a disaster scenario, its inhabitants would only last 7 days
A study carried out by Apur (Atelier Parisien D'urbanisme) has just been published. It shows that in the event of a natural disaster or blockade, Paris' food reserves would run out in 5 to 7 days.
If the French capital were to face unprecedented flooding or a road blockade, without sufficient food storage capacity, its inhabitants would quickly face starvation. The study was initiated by Paris City Council, as part of its “resilience strategy” launched in 2022 to anticipate various crisis scenarios, in conjunction with the prefecture. A first of its kind in France, reports France Info.
While the Covid crisis had already highlighted the limitations of the city of Paris in terms of available warehouses, the aim is to find other storage spaces to be able to supply Parisians for at least 100 days. “The point is to identify what can be stored locally, so as to know how to continue supplying the capital in the event of a disaster, such as a flooding of the Seine, or a road or rail blockade,” stresses Alexandre Labasse, director of the Apur.
