End of the war in Ukraine: “negotiations have already begun” (Ancel, former French officer)
A month before Donald Trump's arrival at the White House, Europeans fear that Washington will negotiate the end of the war in Ukraine, directly with Moscow, without taking into account Kiev's conditions.
War columnist and former French officer Guillaume Ancel, gives an update on the situation to Franceinfo. According to him, the talks have already begun. "We're in a phase of acceleration and pressure from the different protagonists to reach an agreement," he explains.
What will be the role of the United States in this process of talks, as Donald Trump's inauguration approaches? The former officer says: "We know that Trump wants to impose peace before January 20. The negotiations are therefore already quite advanced. It remains to be seen who will be the European force responsible for monitoring the demarcation line that separated the two protagonists. What is negotiable and what is not."
A balancing act
And he added: “We can clearly see that Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing Ukrainian society by playing on the fact that Ukrainians are exhausted by these three years of war, that Ukrainians have never wanted to mobilize their youth to go to the front, and that there is a shortage of soldiers today. There's a kind of balancing act."
