“Protect yourself from this”: Ariana Grande breaks down in interview

In the midst of promoting the film Wicked, Ariana Grande, who plays the role of Glinda in the new musical, spoke with French videographer Crazy Sally.

The opportunity to revisit some sensitive subjects, and in particular that of her weight. A topic that has caused a lot of ink to flow, and which continues to fuel the hatred of certain Internet users. For several years now, the star has become the target of scathing attacks: "She must surely be anorexic, she's lost so much weight", "She's had cosmetic surgery" or "Her complexion is too pale", we be read on social media networks.

Today, the star can no longer stand these constant comments about her physique. Faced with Sally, who asks her about how she fights against this bodysha.ming, Ariana Grande breaks down. "I'm under the scrutiny of the public and I've been kind of a specimen in a jar since I was 16 or 17, so I've heard it all, every version of what's wrong with me. And when you try to fix it, it's always wrong for new reasons. It goes from what you wear, to your body, to your face, to absolutely everything."

When strangers, but also close ones, attack

The singer affirms that no one should have to endure media harassment. She also confides that the criticism she is the target of can come from strangers as well as from close, very close ones. During a family meal, the star explains that her grandmother blurted out to her, in front of all her grandchildren: "but you're so skinny!"

Ariana Grande now refuses to have to accept this kind of attack, no matter their origin. "It's something uncomfortable and horrible. I don't tolerate them anymore. It's not welcome. I have work to do, a life to live, friends to love, so I don't leave room for all that anymore." "[…] If you have to block people, it doesn't matter: protect yourself from that. Because no one has the right to tell you anything."
