Europe wants to take the lead in supporting the Ukrainian army
The European Union is ready to take initiative in supporting Ukraine. However, Europe hopes that US President-elect Donald Trump won't stop supporting the Ukrainians, said the European Union's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas.
“I'm really sure that all the other members, and I hope also the United States, are ready to continue their support for Ukraine [...]. The European Union is also ready to take over if the United States is unwilling to do so,” noted Ms. Kallas.
She added that Europe should not “speculate” on future US support for Ukraine. According to the EU's top diplomat, “it's not in America's interest for Russia to be the most powerful force in the world”.
The administration of US President Joe Biden has provided military and financial assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
However, on January 20, Donald Trump will officially become the new President of the United States, and it remains unclear whether he will continue military assistance to Ukraine.
However, according to the Financial Times, Donald Trump is seriously considering continuing to provide military aid to Ukrainian soldiers.
