Los Angeles: Looters arrested as wildfires ravage the city

Los Angeles County officials have pledged to take strong action against looters exploiting the chaos as wildfires continue to devastate the city.

The city is engulfed in flames, with 130,000 residents evacuated from high-risk areas and over 2,000 buildings reduced to ashes.

Amid the tragedy, some individuals have taken advantage of the current chaos to loot abandoned homes.

"In the midst of the emergency, we have all seen individuals who are targeting vulnerable communities by burglarizing and looting homes. This is simply unacceptable," Kathryn Barger, member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, told reporters Thursday.

She added: "I promise you, you will be held accountable. Shame on those who are preying on our residents during this time of crisis."

As of the time of this report, police have arrested 20 individuals suspected of theft.
