Russia monitors Donald Trump over Greenland interest
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is closely monitoring the situation surrounding Greenland, as Donald Trump continues to express interest in acquiring the Danish-controlled territory.
Dmitry Peskov explained that Russia has "strategic interests" in the region and aims to ensure "stability" in this part of the world.
The American president-elect has reiterated his interest in purchasing the Arctic nation, which is part of Denmark's kingdom. However, these remarks have drawn sharp criticism from European leaders.
EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas has stressed that "we have to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greenland."
In addition to Greenland, Donald Trump has voiced his desire to take control of the Panama Canal, citing the need to ensure "economic security." He has not ruled out the possibility of military intervention or economic sanctions to achieve this goal.
"We are present in the Arctic zone, and we will continue to be present there," said Dmitry Peskov.
