Russia sees little point in ‘weak ceasefire’
Russia has no intention of simply accepting a ceasefire called for by President-elect Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Sergei Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister, declared that a ceasefire ‘would lead to nowhere’. He stated that a truce would only lead to Western countries having an opportunity to rearm Ukraine.
‘We need final legal agreements that will fix all the conditions for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation and, of course, the legitimate security interests of our neighbours,’ Lavrov told at a press conference.
Lavrov also promised a response from Moscow if Ukraine continues to attack civilian targets in Russia with Western missiles and drones. ‘We only attack military installations and infrastructure,’ he added.
