Alcohol-free January: what if you don’t like water?

After the holidays, we start "Dry January"; a concept that invites us all to stop our alcohol consumption during the month of January.

What if you're not particularly a fan of water? In order to avoid the monotony of a glass of water with every meal, everyone is looking for ideas for alternative and healthy drinks. Here are some suggestions found in La Libre:

1. The essential iced tea

Can be varied endlessly and according to your desires, iced tea is very easy to prepare. While some fans don't recommend heating the water before adding the tea mixture, others are more tolerant and add that it's easier to infuse the herbs and dilute the rest directly in very hot water. To do this, you will need to boil a liter of water (adjust according to the desired quantities), add the tea bags and leave them for a few minutes, avoiding the bitterness caused by an infusion that is too long. To this liquid, add honey, cane sugar, cinnamon, etc., and let cool. Serve the tea with ice cubes and why not, a zest of lemon juice, mint leaves and that's it.

2. Revitalizing ginger - detoxifying

Ginger is the trendy plant! In juice, smoothie or infused, ginger root "peps" any drink. Its acidic and spicy taste gives it its specificity. Sometimes considered too strong, like chili pepper, ginger divides those who love it and those who hate it. For those who like it, you might like this preparation: - Peel the ginger root and cut it into cubes
- Bring a pot of water to the boil, add the ginger cubes and let it infuse for 30 to 45 minutes
- Add sugar, honey, lemon slices or cinnamon to the mixture, as you wish
- Let the infused water cool, filter the drink to remove the pieces of ginger used
- Serve with ice cubes

You can enjoy your infusion, in modest doses (or not if you are not afraid of having a burning throat!), in the morning for a real boost and a good dose of energy!

3. Sparkling lemonade

Far from being outdated, lemonade is THE drink that refreshes and gives flavor to water! To satisfy different palates, it is possible to change the flavors by preferring red fruits (strawberry for example), cucumber, apple, pear and to enhance it all with touches of fresh basil, other herbs or spices.

For traditional lemonade:

- Squeeze two lemons and a lime
- Bring 1 liter of water to the boil and let lemon slices infuse it
- Cool the lemon water
- Pour the juice of the squeezed lemons into the cold water, add sugar, cinnamon sticks, fresh mint, basil leaves, according to your desires

For sparkling lemonade: pour 1/2 liter of sparkling water into the cold mixture!

4. Cold coffee against fatigue

Be invigorated after a glass of cold coffee, ideal for overcoming the little slumps! You just need to follow the same steps as for your usual and usually hot coffee, make it a little stronger and let it cool down slowly, naturally. Cold, put your coffee in the fridge for at least two hours. For more freshness, give it a few ice cubes, for more sweetness, pour a little cane sugar syrup and/or Chantilly cream. There you go, in great shape, on the path of your activities.

So, rather mild or strong, sweet or spicy? These drinks will give you something to break the mineral routine.
