Woman scammed by ‘Brad Pitt’ for 850,000 dollars
In France, a woman left her husband for someone posing as Brad Pitt. The latter scammed her for more than 850,000 dollars.
A 53-year-old French interior designer got in touch on Instagram with someone who impersonated the famous actor's mother. The fake Brad Pitt quickly convinced the woman and sent her gifts for which she had to pay as much as 5,000 dollars to get them through customs.
The woman felt neglected by her husband, a millionaire, and divorced him. The doubts she initially had about her ‘Brad Pitt’ languished when she received photos of him generated via artificial intelligence. The man also claimed to be suffering from kidney cancer and declared he could not afford the treatments because his accounts were frozen due to his divorce with actress Angelina Jolie. The Frenchwoman then coughed up only several hundred thousand dollars for her great love.
When the woman expressed doubts again because she saw pictures of the real Brad Pitt and his new girlfriend in the media, the scammers created fake news items to convince her. This worked initially, but eventually she had to realize she had been scammed. She lost contact with friends and family and lapsed into depression.
