Identity theft: Actor makes a big stink

Johnny Depp is currently dealing with scammers who are trying to impersonate him. He's getting angry and warning his fans: the trap has, unfortunately, already claimed many victims on social media networks.

On his Instagram account, the American actor warns: “Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that online scammers are stepping up their efforts to deceive my fans and supporters. As part of their tactics, they're creating multiple fake social media network accounts and email addresses posing as me and members of my team.”

He takes the opportunity to denounce the dangers of using AI (artificial intelligence), which is capable of reproducing his voice, image, face... making the scam seem even more real. “Neither I nor my team will ask you for money or your personal information. We're currently working to combat these illicit schemes.”

In his statement, he lists all his official accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, specifying that he's not on Snapchat and Discord. He concludes by stressing that he never exchanges with his fans directly on messaging apps such as Whatsapp or Telegram.

So be careful, there are some fake Johnny Depps out there...
