In the open sea, a surfer gets impaled by a swordfish
The story is tragic. Giulia Manfrini, 36, was surprised by a swordfish while surfing near the island of Pulau Masokut, in Indonesia.
The young woman from Italy lost her life on October 18, 2024. While surfing, a swordfish impaled her. "Unexpectedly, a swordfish jumped towards Manfrini and sank directly onto the tourist's chest," reports an official from a local disaster management agency.
Before being transported to a health center, Giulia Manfrini had requested the help of two tourists present at the scene of the accident. They then performed first aid. The thirty-year-old unfortunately succumbed to her serious injuries.
Tributes poured in on Instagram. The mayor of the town where Giulia Manfrini comes from wrote: Giulia Manfrini "had long since realized her double dream: to surf, her favorite sport, and to open a travel agency for sports vacations. And so, in the prime time of life, she tragically passed away in the Indian Ocean, far from her family".
