United Kingdom: Heavy winds cause 100 cancelled flights before Christmas
Christmas in the UK is being turned upside down by the high winds currently sweeping the country.
On Sunday December 22, around 100 flights were cancelled due to strong gusts of wind. London's Heathrow Airport announced that, due to the high winds and “airspace restrictions, a small number of flights were cancelled today”, estimated at around 100.
For its part, the British shipping company P & O Ferries said it had cancelled all sailings on its route between Larne (Northern Ireland) and Cairnryan (southern Scotland), at least until Sunday evening.
Road closures and speed restrictions on trains: since Saturday, the consequences have been felt throughout the English transport network. According to the British meteorological agency (Met Office), the winds are expected to die down on Sunday night.
