Holidays are coming: here's how to avoid a hangover
The festive season is approaching, and for many that involves consuming alcohol at the dinner table. Avoiding a hangover is always the best advice then.
The best way to avoid a hangover is to drink little or no alcohol: drink in moderation, alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic ones and do not drink alcohol on an empty stomach.
If you still want to enjoy an alcoholic drink and you like to drink wine, it is better to drink white wine instead of red wine if you want to avoid a hangover.
Lighter-coloured alcoholic drinks (such as light beer and white wine) cause a less severe hangover than dark-coloured drinks (such as dark beers, whisky or red wine). The explanation? The fermentation process that makes those drinks darker also releases compounds called congeners. These intensify the bad feeling when your body has to work to break them down.
