The oldest woman in the world, a Frenchwoman, smoked every day
France's Jeanne Calment died in 1997 at the age of 122.
To date, no one has ever lived to such an advanced age on this earth. Jeanne exercised a lot, had good genes...and, surprisingly, she smoked a lot of cigarettes.
A few longevity secrets?
Jeanne was born in 1875 and never worked, her husband being very wealthy. She walked and cycled a lot, and also played tennis, fenced, roller-skated, swam and played the piano. Every day, she applied olive oil to the skin on her face and then powdered herself.
As well as lots of garlic and olive oil, she also ate a kilo of chocolate a week, a banana and an orange every day. She lived in an unheated house and smoked a cigarette after every meal until she was 117.
