Secrecy around discovery of gigantic Roman coin batch in Limburg
As we speak, some 3,600 Roman coins are being examined and cleaned at the Restaura restoration studio in Heerlen. They were found in the Dutch province of Limburg. But where exactly this astronomical find was made, may not be disclosed.
"We do not want to disrupt the research into this treasure. There are many interests at stake, from landowners, to the municipality where the coins were found. It is certainly not the intention to have all kinds of visitors looking for something, while the loot has long been collected," restorer Rasmus Thelen explains more about this unique find to Belga.
This is the largest find of Roman coins ever made in Limburg. The coin treasure dates from the late Roman period.
