Dozens of European media infiltrated by Russia
Working together with Spanish authorities , the European Commission has just uncovered a pro-Russian "information laundering" system.
This involved 23 websites with links to Russia posing as Western media in order to undermine support for Ukraine.
The operation has been detected in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain, as indicated by the European External Action Service's team tasked with detecting pro-Kremlin information manipulation in the EU. The team has already documented and analysed "17,000 examples” of manipulation since its work began in 2015.
The researchers found that the websites discovered take pro-Kremlin content from Russian state-controlled media or various pro-Kremlin social media accounts and repackage it to target EU audiences.
