‘New Cold War threatens to heat up’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has once again lashed out heavily at the West.
Lavrov accuses Western countries of setting up a ‘new Cold War’. And in that context, he stressed that that Cold War is now in danger of becoming ‘hot’, the Russian minister told a meeting of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Malta on Thursday.
‘To put NATO back on the political map after the Afghan debacle, there had to be a new enemy to rally around. The solution was a reincarnation of the Cold War,’ Lavrov said.
In addition, Lavrov also accused the US of trying to ‘destabilise the Eurasian continent’, his statement added. ‘The Biden administration is increasing NATO infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region. The number of military exercises is increasing.’
