Russia is fleeing again
Russia has ordered its fleet stationed in Syria to relocate as Syrian rebel forces continue their push to overthrow Bashar al-Assad.
The Russian fleet, originally based in the Black Sea, has been moved to a base in Crimea. This marks a significant loss for Vladimir Putin, as the Tartus base in Syria provided a strategic presence in the Mediterranean and a key advantage against NATO.
Analyst MT Anderson shared satellite images on their X account, dated between November 30 and December 3, showing that Russian ships docked in Syria have been relocated.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, Moscow is likely to redeploy these warships to Kaliningrad, as Russia is unable to pass through the Bosphorus Strait under the restrictions of the Montreux Convention.
Earlier this year, Russia was forced to move its fleet to Crimea after multiple Ukrainian drone attacks.
