Tensions between Paris and Moscow are rising
In an interview for LCI, the French news channel, former Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, believes that it's necessary to be able to "show our teeth" to Vladimir Putin, and he adds that "this could involve sending ground troops" to Ukraine.
On LCI, Manuel Valls calls for the provision of long-range weapons, an increase in defense budgets and the utmost firmness towards Russia.
"North Korea is about to become a co-belligerent in a European war, this is a very serious event because it highlights the West's inability to put an end to a conflict that has been taking place on European soil for almost 3 years and to maintain sufficient deterrence to prevent the worst dictatorship in the world from sending its soldiers to kill Ukrainians."
And Valls concludes:
"Russia has taken a very big step towards a dangerous escalation by inviting North Korea to Ukraine. So we can try to defuse the conflict, talk about negotiations, but the reality is that when faced with Putin or Kim Jong-Un, what works is not diplomacy but deterrence."
