US sounds the alarm: Ukraine must act or face gloomy future

Ukraine must make difficult decisions to mobilize more men to counter Russian offensives, according to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Last month, a U.S. official suggested that Ukraine lower the minimum conscription age to 18 to bolster its army, which has been significantly depleted after nearly four years of conflict. However, Kyiv did not respond favorably to the suggestion. Nonetheless, Antony Blinken appeared to allude to the idea again during a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday.

Earlier in the war, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already reduced the mandatory conscription age from 27 to 25.

The outgoing Secretary of State stressed that this mobilization effort is "critical," adding that more men are needed to push back Russian forces.

"For every person, every soldier that Ukraine mobilizes, we are committed to making sure that they have the training and the equipment they need to effectively defend the country," he said.
