In the United States, “the polar vortex is unleashed with maximum ferocity”
The United States is currently experiencing an intense cold front linked to the so-called Arctic “polar vortex”.
The icy air that has particularly affected the central and eastern United States is now descending as far as the Gulf Coast.
As L'Indépendant reports, Texas and Louisiana are currently experiencing the first blizzard warning in their history. The south coast of the country, from Houston to Jacksonville (Florida), could be covered in a thick blanket of snow (and ice).
According to Ryan Hall, a popular Youtube weather analyst, this winter storm is “once in a lifetime”. On X (formerly Twitter), he says: “Dangerous ice and snow blanket the Gulf Coast as the Arctic storm drops temperatures to -55 degrees (Fahrenheit, or -12 degrees Celsius) on the plains. From Texas to Florida: expect chaotic travel and possible power outages.” These forecasts were confirmed by CNN.
For his part, meteorologist Ryan Maue says: “The polar vortex is unleashed with maximum ferocity. At 8 am (Tuesday), the average temperature in the 48 contiguous states was just 9°F as a blizzard unfolded in Louisiana and moved toward Florida. More than 60 million people live below 0°C. This extreme winter phenomenon, caused by climate change, is an emergency”.
