Denmark laments ‘horrendous’ phone call with Donald Trump over Greenland purchase

Denmark has criticized the "horrendous" attitude of Donald Trump during a phone call with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

The two leaders spoke for 45 minutes last week regarding the potential sale of Greenland to the United States. The Arctic territory has been part of the Danish crown since 1814, but the U.S. president has made no secret of his desire to acquire it.

According to the Financial Times, the Scandinavian leader firmly informed Donald Trump that Greenland was not for sale.

The British outlet also reported that Donald Trump became aggressive during the call and even threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark if Greenland was not ceded to the U.S.

In the past, the Danish government has stated that Greenland’s future should be decided by its own people.
